On April 6, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace proclaimed by the UN, the online meeting of organizers of the Russian-German sports youth exchanges took place. It was attended by representatives of Russian sports clubs, student sports leagues, sports federations, school and student sports clubs as well as institutions of additional education in physical culture and sports implementing youth exchanges with Germany in the field of mass sports. In total 30 people participated there.
The event was organized by MIREA – Russian Technological University acting as the Russian Coordination Bureau for Youth Cooperation with Germany and the Russian Student Sports Union.
The key issues of the meeting were:
- discussion of the current situation in the field of Russian-German youth exchanges including sports,
- interaction with German partner organizations in the new conditions,
- formats and opportunities to support joint Russian-German projects in the field of mass sports in the new conditions.
At present, when most of the formats of bilateral cooperation are suspended, amateur sports as a universal language can become a tool for maintaining mutual understanding between young people in Russia and Germany.
Most of the meeting participants noted that they are still interested in cooperation, contacts with their German partners and plan to conduct joint projects this year in the format of an exchange of specialists and in the format of youth meetings most of which will be held online under the current conditions.

Russian-German youth cooperation in the field of mass sports is carried out in accordance with the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany in the field of youth cooperation dated December 21, 2004 and the Agreement in the field of work with youth between the Russian Student Sports Union and the association “German Sports Youth” of September 14, 2017.
