Educational seminar on the development of international youth cooperation and public diplomacy “Public Diplomatic Corps” (archive event)

From October 18 to October 21 the educational seminar on the development of international youth cooperation and public diplomacy for representatives of youth organizations and youth leaders “Public Diplomatic Corps” was held in person in Moscow.

The ceremonial opening of the seminar took place on October 18 at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation. Welcoming speeches at the opening were made by A.Y. Shkolnik, the Chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation for International Cooperation, the Director of the Victory Museum, D.V. Ashirov, the Director of the Department of State Youth Policy and Educational Activities of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, G.V. Petushkov, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Russia, T.V. Shashikhina, the Director of the European Educational Institute MGIMO (U) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, V.G. Karslieva, the Deputy Executive Director of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, R.N. Grishenin, the Executive Director of the Primakov Center for Foreign Policy Cooperation.

The Public Diplomatic Corps is the educational seminar on the development of international youth cooperation and public diplomacy for representatives of youth organizations and youth leaders. It is aimed at forming a pool of young professionals who have knowledge and skills of international communication, who are well versed in international relations and are ready to implement international projects aimed at developing partnerships with countries of the world as well as at creating a positive image of Russia abroad, at disseminating Russian culture and language in the world.

Goals:

• strengthening participants’ knowledge and improving competencies necessary for the successful implementation of international projects as well as for the professional participation of their NGOs in public diplomacy programs at national and international levels,
• consolidation of youth leaders and representatives of youth public organizations working in the field of public diplomacy and international youth cooperation, 
• activation of the institutional role of youth in the international environment, 
• formation of a positive image of Russia abroad through youth participation.

Project directions:

1. Development of skills and competencies among youth leaders and representatives of youth public organizations necessary for work in the field of public diplomacy and international youth cooperation, 
2. Development and subsequent implementation by participants of projects / proposals aimed at developing friendly, partnership relations with public organizations of foreign states, with international and intergovernmental institutions as well as at creating a positive image of Russia abroad, at spreading Russian culture and language in the world.

Participants: 35 participants were young representatives of socially oriented NGOs, young representatives of public diplomacy and international youth cooperation, young representatives of student organizations, young parliamentarians and members of youth parliaments.

Key results: As a result of the educational seminar, 35 people were trained in the basics of international relations, diplomatic activity, international work and public diplomacy. Participants developed skills and competencies in the field of international youth cooperation.
