Competitive selection for participation in the International Exchange Program for Young Leaders of the World “Ship for World Youth 2021” starts

The “Ship for World Youth” international exchange program for young world leaders has been implemented by the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan since 1988. More than 7,000 people from 66 countries are alumni of the Program.

The purpose of the Program is to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between Japanese youth and youth from other countries, develop young people’s communication skills with representatives of other cultures, leadership and managerial qualities and educate young people in the spirit of international cooperation.

Events of the “Ship for World Youth 2021” Program will take place online on January 15, 22, 29 and February 12, 2022. The events will be attended by 80 youth representatives from Australia, New Zealand, Oman, Poland, Russia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, South Africa and Japan. The Russian delegation is invited to participate for the sixth time.

The main themes of the “Ship for World Youth 2021” Program are related to the Sustainable Development Goals:

  1. Social problems, 
  2. Gender equality, 
  3. Economic problems, 
  4. Environmental problems.

Format of the Program events is discussions and seminars on the topic “Sustainable Development Goals” as well as presentations and seminars organized by program participants.

Working language of the Program is English.

University students, leaders of public associations and representatives of state organizations working in the field of youth policy are invited to participate in the Program.

Requirements for participants:

  • citizenship of the Russian Federation, 
  • residence in the Russian Federation, 
  • age from 18 to 30 years old as of April 1, 2021, 
  • English proficiency not lower than Upper-intermediate level, 
  • active life position: the applicant of the Program must have experience of participating in or organizing socially significant projects, 
  • interest in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals on the topics of the Program, 
  • interest in Japan, willingness to help expand friendly ties between Russia and Japan, 
  • ability to work in a team (experience in an international team is desirable), 
  • stress tolerance, 
  • discipline (mandatory participation in all activities of the Program including preparatory ones), 
  • sociability, the ability to lead a discussion and speak in public, 
  • creativity.

The competitive selection of program participants takes place in two stages. The first stage is held at the level of the Russian Federation. The second stage is held by the Center for International Youth Exchanges under the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan.

To participate in the first stage of the competitive selection you must fill out an application in English by 18:00 (Moscow time) on October 24, 2021 at the link https://forms.gle/eXt93g1AcTUn3pow8 as well as prepare and attach a video in English to the application language of no more than 60 seconds (a brief introduction by the candidate explaining the motivation for participating in the Program, arguments that the candidate is best suited to participate in the Program and an explanation of how the candidate plans to use the unique opportunities of the Program).

Application does not guarantee participation in the Program. Candidates passed the first stage of the competitive selection will receive notification letters by October 28, 2021.

Program Organizer is the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan.

Organizers of the first stage of competitive selection in the Russian Federation are: 

  • The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, 
  • MIREA – Russian Technological University acting as the Russian-Japanese Coordination Bureau for Youth Exchanges, 
  • The Ship for World Youth Alumni Association (SWYAA Russia).
