Russian-Turkmen youth meeting

On December 18, 2020 the Russian-Turkmen youth meeting was held in a hybrid format. The meeting was dedicated to the topic “Unleashing the potential of Russian-Turkmen youth cooperation. Opportunities for youth of Russia and Turkmenistan”. 

The purpose was creation of conditions for the development of Russian-Turkmen youth cooperation.

Tasks

  • Informing participants about the current state of Russian-Turkmen cooperation and its prospects, 
  • Informing participants about existing opportunities in the field of humanitarian and youth cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan, 
  • Exchange of experience in the implementation of youth projects, 
  • Formation of a pool of active youth of Russia and Turkmenistan interested in the further development of joint projects and the strengthening of Russian-Turkmen relations.

Participants were 78 people – representatives of youth and student associations, representatives of higher educational institutions of Russia and Turkmenistan as well as students from Turkmenistan studying in the Russian Federation.

During the event participants discussed challenges and opportunities in the field of youth cooperation and cooperation in the sphere of youth policy of Russia and Turkmenistan, the contribution of youth and public diplomacy to strengthening cooperation between states as well as the role of foreign students and graduates in the development of bilateral relations. During the meeting proposals were also made for the development of Russian-Turkmen youth cooperation and joint projects for 2021.

Results

During the meeting following proposals were made for the development of Russian-Turkmen youth cooperation:

  • Involvement of Turkmenistan to participate in activities of the Council for Youth Affairs of the CIS Member States, 
  • Attracting colleagues from Turkmenistan to participate in activities of the World Association of Graduates of Higher Educational Institutions, 
  • Inviting colleagues from Turkmenistan to participate in the International Organization Modeling Forum in Omsk in 2021 organized by the International Organization Modeling Association, 
  • Establishing cooperation with partners from Turkmenistan to organize educational internships for youth workers and conduct expert research on youth issues within the framework of the basic organization of the CIS Member States for working with youth, 
  • Attracting participants from Turkmenistan to projects “Electronic library of a youth worker in the CIS” and additional professional advanced training program “Organization of youth work in the CIS”, 
  • Implementation of joint activities by Russia and Turkmenistan to implement the Sustainable Development Goals in particular SDG 13.
